Above the Colonial Subconscious, Africa Moves
by Michel Ngue-Awane

PRESS RELEASE

Optimistic and accessible guide offers a rousing call to one beloved continent to break free from inertia, and the shackles of history, and emerge as a strong and powerful nation
Nothing is impossible to he who believes
Above the Colonial Subconscious, Africa Moves take us through a journey of self-discovery where we discover the causes of our mental poverties and open new doors to freedom and success. Although African countries won the physical battle against the colonial powers’ occupation, they are still struggling to liberate their minds. A history of subtle and systematic indoctrination of their subconscious, through programmes put in place to control them, has left it’s shadow. However, after travelling to Africa, Michel Ngue-Awane was surprised by the lack of action by individuals themselves to change the status quo and was left with the impression that people believed the situation could change simply by the wave of a magic wand. In Above the Colonial Subconscious, Africa Moves, Ngue-Awane advocates an end to traditional aid programmes instead wanting the shift in focus to be on the permanent reorganisation of the African system in order to; restore people’s confidence and inspire the younger generations to release their potential thereby putting them on the road to prosperity and real long-lasting freedom from their past.
Divided into three important stages Ngue-Awane first introduces us to his concept of ‘The Colonial Subconscious’ -a theory that many of the current struggles faced by Africans today are exacerbated unconsciously by themselves- and encourages readers to reflect on their own lives and sense of self. By identifying these repressed ideologies the individual can confront the negative shackles and enter a positive stage of self-actualisation. This releases the subconscious and invites in new experiences and opportunities leaving the individual able to take firm, positive action and full control over their destiny. Only after individuals in Africa have improved and honoured ourselves can they collectively rise above all prejudices and stereotypes ensuring the freedom, peace and prosperity for future generations.
Although certainly not denying the Western world’s responsibility for the long terms effects Colonisation had on the continent, Above the Colonial Subconscious, Africa Moves places the importance on the need for African people to accept responsibilities for their own futures and be proactive in improving their quality of life and place in the world. A unique blend of memoir, academic treatise and self-help, Above the Colonial Subconscious, Africa Moves is optimistic, open and honest in its approach and will educate and move readers to tap into the often ignored sense that they are destined for - and capable of - something far greater.
